ROOFTOP PARTY
Hello all! Back with a short post, enjoy! Sorry no pictures today!
(No kidding they actually do this kind of stuff to soju bottles before drinking)
SOMAEK AND AJUSSHI
On Tuesday morning I was surprised to receive a text from my Eimo(Korean for aunt, but actually my landlady), inviting me to a roof top party that evening in my building. Now don't get excited, my building only houses a GS25, a chicken restaurant, and our apartment. So it is essentially just the tenants in one apartment that will be at this party. Also our roof top is tiny, think Korean drama rooftop. I was finally going to meet all my house mates! After meeting for dinner with my doomwi, my Korean mentor, I made my way back home fashionably late, as I do. I arrived to the rooftop where I found 5 Singapore exchange students, my eimo, and 3 Korean ajusshis(ajushi is Korean for older man). Soju, beer, and wine were aplenty as well as galbi(meat), rice, kimchi, watermelon, etc, lets just say it was a feast. I was warmly welcomed by everyone and found that all the exchange students spoke English and were studying at the university next to Ewha(my university). I had previously met the one Singaporean guy, who turns out is the only one I share my floor with(the other rooms are currently empty). The rest of the exchange students live below me and the ajusshis were visiting. The rest of the evening progressed with the 3 ajusshis continuing to pour me drinks and take shots of soju while trying to speak to me with the little Korean I know. It felt like I was drinking with my dad lol. It was a very Korean experience and it was nice to finally meet everyone. Also I'm apparently an English teacher with two new ajusshi students?
WESTERN FOOD
Tuesday was also my first time eating somewhat western food in Korea. Now it wasn't pizza, I still have yet to try Korean style pizza, but I had a western style sandwich in a swanky little restaurant with my Korean mentor. It was a pretty good sandwich not gonna lie, but the "salad" they provided with like 3 lettuce leaves with no dressing so there's still room for improvement.
BLOOPERS
-Bingsu is so good I could eat it everyday
-while walking back home at 6pm I was welcomed to two korean guys helping their other friend empty his guts out in the middle of the street in front of my apartment. Mind you this is not uncommon. Koreans take turning up on a Tuesday to a whole different level.
-my spice tolerance is increasing I think??
